The Asus C202S is a good budget Chromebook for the same reasons it’s a good Chromebook for schools. Built to endure being shared among students, schlepped around classrooms, and shoved into backpacks, it’s more than ready to handle incidental wear and tear in your home environment. Most Chromebooks in the $200 price range don’t feel up to much challenge, honestly, but you’d actually have to work a bit to rattle the C202S. The durable design also makes it nicer to use than most bargain models.  The Asus C202S is protected by rubber bumpers lining the lid and the lower half of the device.

For decades, PCs were at the center of Intel's business, but not anymore. Self-driving cars, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence are more attractive to Intel, which no longer views PCs as a priority. That's the message the company will try to deliver at Intel Developer Forum, starting on Tuesday. IDF attendees will see drones fly around and robots roaming the floor, and they will be able to try on cool wearables and VR and AR (augmented reality) headsets. Unlike past years, attendees won't be wowed with a lot of blazing laptops and desktops running upcoming PC processors. Instead, Intel will provide an insight into its internet-of-things and data-center strategies.

The first time I saw Modobag in a viral video, it thought it was a joke. After all, what better to illustrate the excesses of Silicon Valley than a motorized suitcase that scoots you to your gate at the airport. But Modobag is real and the product of two years of research and development by a small team based in Chicago. They already have a surprisingly sturdy and well-engineered prototype and almost 200 orders, despite its high price tag compared to other luggage. I got a chance to ride a prototype and it was a lot of fun. The Modobag is a standard airline carry-on bag, so you can keep it with you when you fly. You'll lose about 20 percent of the luggage space to the batteries, motor, control stick and other pieces required to motorize it.

Audi’s Traffic light information system offers a first: the ability to tell you when the stoplight is going to change from red to green. This is a big thing for the impatient driver, but it’s an even bigger thing for the automotive industry. With the world’s only shipping example of vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication (where the car exchanges data with a component of the highway system), Audi’s ushering in a new era of cars as data-driven mobility devices. The new feature, announced Monday, will be available on 2017 Q7, A4, and A4 allroad models built from June, 2016 onward.  Think about it: The Traffic light information system lets the car talk to the road. As your car nears a traffic light, it will receive real-time data about the signals at that location. Because the data can be complex, Audi says the car’s computer will decide whether it has enough information to know when the traffic light you’re sitting at will turn green. If so, it’ll display a countdown clock on the instrument cluster.

You worked incredibly hard to get yourself (or your child) into college. Now when it’s time to pack up your bags and head off to campus, you’ll want to bring along all the right technology to help you do your best. Most of Apple’s Mac lineup is overdue for a refresh, but if you’re shopping for college, you might consider a MacBook or iPad Pro. Both have key features that make them especially handy for college students. And both are eligible for If you buy an eligible Mac (any model but the Mac mini), you can get a free pair of

Twitter's vision for its NFL games apparently includes making it easier to watch the games on your television.

Mediocre mid-range and top end takes some of the luster off the Bravo’s superb bass performance.

Ever get Yes, it’s that time of the year when friends and family hit you up for computer-buying advice. Their kids are going off to college, and they need your all-knowing tech help right now. Because great computer knowledge comes with great responsibility, I always wade into the specs, and provide quick-take buying recommendations based on what I can discern from the configurations and prices. So, in the spirit of offering you the same expert advice I’d give to my nearest and dearest, I’ve combed through the best-selling laptop lists from both Amazon and Best Buy, and weighed the pros and cons. Both lists change quite rapidly, so I’m basing this on a snapshot in time—namely, the best-selling laptops on the morning of August 8, 2016.
