One of the challenges on the way to realizing the benefits of Researchers at Penn State University said they’ve made a big advance. Quantum bits, or qubits, are the quantum equivalent of the bits used in traditional computing. While today’s bits typically represent data as 0s or 1s, qubits can be both 0 and 1 at the same time through a state known as superposition.

We round up the latest rumors on Samsung's next phone-tablet hybrid device.

After months of calling the next release simply “Android N,” Google has finally settled on a name. The company revealed Nougat on its Snapchat channel and Twitter, which included uncovering the latest statue to grace the Google campus.  Google names its Android versions after what it calls “sweet treats.” Though the first two releases had no corresponding name, the early 1.5 release was named “Cupcake.” From there, each new version of Android takes on the name of some sort of sweet food, each name beginning with the next letter of the alphabet. After Cupcake came Donut, then Eclair, all the way through corporate-sponsored “KitKat” (version 4.4), and last year’s “Marshmallow” (6.0).

The U.S. Congress has a small window of time to stop proposed changes in federal court rules that will expand the FBI’s authority to hack into computers during criminal investigations, a senator said Thursday. The rule changes allowing expanded FBI searches of computers,

Watson might schedule your meetings someday if a partnership between IBM and Cisco Systems bears the fruit they’re hoping to grow. In the meantime, the companies hope to save employees from some of the meaningless tasks they have to carry out just to work with their colleagues. IBM’s Verse email platform and Connections collaboration suite are a good match for Cisco products like the Spark messaging app and WebEx conferencing service, so the two vendors have found ways to integrate them, company officials say. All this will happen in the cloud. They’ll demonstrate the first examples next month at the Cisco Live conference. The collaboration could have particular value for enterprise Apple users. Both IBM and Cisco have partnerships with Apple for enterprise applications and communications on the company's devices. Details on that aspect of the IBM-Cisco partnership will come later, they said.

Two years ago, VLC-maker VideoLan rolled out a version of its popular open source Even better, the app actually takes advantage of the UWP to bring VLC to multiple Windows 10 device types, including PCs, tablets, Windows 10 Mobile, and even the HoloLens augmented reality headset. As if that wasn’t enough, the UWP version of VLC is coming to the Xbox One later this summer once Microsoft opens up the console to third-party UWP apps. The powerful, beloved VLC seems like a perfect showcase for what’s possible with UWP on the Xbox One, and a great fit for your TV.

By default, Windows requires you to prove that you're you every time you boot or just wake the computer out of sleep mode. There are good reasons for that. You don't want someone else reading your email or shopping with your Amazon account. But all that typing can get annoying, and if you only use your PC in a secure place, it may not be necessary. Here are three ways to avoid this repetitive typing.

The number of users infected with mobile ransomware is skyrocketing, as hackers try to expand the number of potential victims they can target. Compared with a year ago, almost four times as many users are being attacked by mobile ransomware, security firm Kaspersky Lab It’s a troubling trend.

It’s easy to lose control of your inbox knowing Gmail’s powerful search can always bail you out. But it’s way more efficient to not let the clutter build up in the first place. When first launched on Kickstarter, the Jorno was promoted as a compact 8.5 x 3.5 x 1.2 inch keyboard that would fold up to become as small as some smartphones. What a difference two long years of design changes, production delays, and a large number of angry backers can make. By the time it was released, the Jorno no longer resembled the product originally pitched. The final production version of the Jorno is 9.91 x 3.53 x 0.26 inches fully deployed and 5.77 x 3.53 x 0.67 inches when folded up. And instead of the five foldout sections that backers were initially promised, the final iteration of the Jorno comes with two hinges, making for three folding sections. Technically, it’s still small enough to stick in your pocket—if you're wearing cargo pants.

Of all the portable keyboards I’ve tested or attempted to use over the years, I loathe the iWerkz Universal Folding Keyboard the most. If you’re shopping for a coworker, writer, or student you despise, this is the accessory to get. That said, there’s a ton of people that seem to LOVE it—I chose to call it in for testing after seeing that 50% of the 700-plus people who reviewed it on Amazon gave it a five-star rating. I even ran its Amazon page through FakeSpot. The service told me that the reviews for the iWerkz were legit. FakeSpot couldn’t tell me, however, how many of the reviewers are masochists. As with the other folding keyboards profiled in this roundup, the iWerkz connects to devices via Bluetooth. Though the documentation is a bit thin, the keyboard is compatible with hardware running Android, iOS, or Windows.

Of all the folding keyboards I’ve reviewed so far, the iClever Backlit Foldable Keyboard stands out as the best. Others that I’ve evaluated all sacrifice usability in the name of portability, but not this one. Priced at $55, the iClever Backlit Foldable Keyboard’s a little more expensive than the majority of its rivals, but if you’re looking for a compact, folding keyboard that you’ll actually want to type on, it’s worth every penny. The iClever mirrors the design of the Jorno and EC Tech-style keyboards, from the outer shells made from anodized aluminum all the way down to how the hinges work. But where you get a keyboard that’s about 80% of the size of a regular desktop keyboard from the Jorno or EC Tech hardware, the iClever provides what appears to be a full-sized keyboard.

Microsoft appears to be building a business app store. The company put online a test version of a service called AppSource that’s designed to help businesses find software that augments the Microsoft products they already use, such as Power BI and Dynamics AX. The AppSource site was available Tuesday night at All of this appears to have come to light after someone developing the site at Microsoft accidentally made a test version of it available on the public Internet, where it was
