The Petya ransomware now bundles a second file-encrypting program for cases where it cannot replace a computer's master boot record to encrypt its file table. Petya is an unusual ransomware threat that first popped up on security researchers' radar in March. Instead of encrypting a user's files directly, Before encrypting the MFT, Petya replaces the computer's master boot record (MBR), which contains code that initiates the operating system's bootloader. Petya replaces it with its own malicious code that displays the ransom note and leaves computers unable to boot.

Bangladesh Bank, a commercial bank in Vietnam and ... Sony Pictures are the unlikely bedfellows in a tale of cyber intrigue uncovered by security researchers at BAE Systems. Researchers The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation said

The future of health care is wearable devices that transmit our vitals to our physicians. Instead of self-reported data, which is often inaccurate (no offense, but your memory just kind of sucks), doctors will have real numbers to form the basis for diagnoses and treatment plans. In the wake of Apple’s QardioArm is a medical-grade smart blood pressure monitor that can send data to your doctor.

One of my favorite features of YouTube’s mobile apps is its multitasking mode. This genius feature allows you to continue watching a video in a smaller panel while searching for other items within the app. I’ve often wished I could do that on my PC since the only alternative is to open a new tab and use Windows’ Snap feature to see the video and the rest of YouTube at the same time. That is, unless you use a handy Chrome extension called First, of course, you have to download and install Picture in Picture from the Chrome Web store. Once that’s done, you’re ready to roll. There are no settings to tweak or functions requiring you to click on the extension icon.

Within ten seconds of starting Damn, is it fun. Even now, writing this at 3:30 a.m., I’m fully aware that I should be asleep, but a part of me wants to wrap this article and then head back to Mars. Actually, a fairly large part of me wants to ditch this article entirely and jump back into

Apple has invested US$1 billion in China's largest ride-hailing company, Didi Chuxing, in a move that could give it an opportunity to participate in the local company's bid to build a data-driven ride-share platform. Didi, which is already backed by big local players like Tencent and Alibaba, said it has raised the Apple investment as a part of its latest funding round. The investment by Apple is the largest single investment Didi has ever received, it added. Apple has been indicating that such an investment was coming for some time now, said Patrick Moorhead, president and principal analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy. The company has already said that it plans to increase its services revenue and that the Chinese market is a key component of its overall strategy going forward, Moorhead said.

Anyone can get into the private beta of MIcrosoft's new GigJam productivity service, which is aimed at helping teams of people collaborate in real time over the Internet, the company announced Thursday.  GigJam combines data from a variety of services including Microsoft's own Office 365, Trello, Dropbox, and Salesforce. Users can then bring that information into a shared workspace, allowing them to quickly work together. Users can easily redact part of the information they're sharing with other people, meaning they can selectively share only what needs to be seen in order to get a job done.  There's no way around it: GigJam is a kind of wacky product Microsoft has built to help people get work done together. But what's interesting is that it's emblematic of the company's current approach to the productivity market -- focused on letting people quickly and independently collaborate across different services while maintaining a secure environment.

Annual iTunes song downloads are projected to hit almost $600 million in sales in 2019. But that figure may not be big enough to keep Apple in the music-selling business. Apple wants to phase out the sale of music downloads via the iTunes Store in two years, according to a new report by
