If you’ve decided that no, you’re never, ever going to upgrade to Windows 10, the free Never10 app might be just what you’re looking for. Steve Gibson, the author of the popular freeware Shields UP! anonymity app, has released

A year ago, Microsoft rolled into its Build developers conference on a wave of momentum. A series of public Windows 10 betas had fans cheering, and Microsoft promised that its platform would save Windows phones and PCs alike.  But now it’s 2016, and the confetti has long since blown away. At this week’s Build, which kicks off Wednesday morning, app developers will demand to know how Microsoft plans to deliver on its promises. Specifically, they’ll want the status of tools that port apps from Android and iOS to Windows, along with details on how they can monetize those apps.  These are very developer-facing issues, but don’t expect an end to the razzle-dazzle, either, as Microsoft should use Build 2016 to talk up HoloLens in earnest.  And behind it all? Microsoft will dig into “Redstone,” the next branch of Windows 10, and the platform upon which everything Microsoft rests.

Apple can't yet boast of significantly longer battery life in devices, but the company is looking to change that. The company is researching new types of batteries that could potentially help Macs, mobile devices, and wearable devices run much longer without a recharge. Samsung's brewed up a fresh idea of how to bring a smart dashboard system to the motorcycle with a new concept called the Samsung Smart Windshield. It’s a kind of heads-up—eyes slightly down, really—display that allows motorcyclists to keep their hands on the handlebars and still interact with their phones. The basic idea is that you connect your smartphone (via Wi-Fi and a dedicated app) to a device embedded in your bike that includes a projector. When you’re on the road, the projector takes information from your smartphone and displays it in a semi-transparent view on the bottom of the bike’s windshield. The Smart Windshield can display all kinds of content, including turn-by-turn navigation, email, messaging, and phone notifications. Other smartphone notifications may also be available. There's also an automatic SMS reply feature to keep bikers from reaching for the phone in their pocket while on the road.

Internet service providers are picking "winners and losers" in violation of U.S. net neutrality rules by selectively exempting Web traffic from their monthly data caps, according to a coalition of more than 50 advocacy groups. The Federal Communications Commission should stop ISPs from exempting selected Web traffic, known as offering zero-rating plans, and enforce its year-old net neutrality rules, the digital rights and consumer groups said Zero-rating plans "present a serious threat" to the open Internet, the letter said. "They distort competition, thwart innovation, threaten free speech, and restrict consumer choice."

Two or more people sharing one PC for work sounds like a recipe for disaster. Do you really want a family member or co-worker to read, edit and delete your files and folders; use or delete your applications; or make system-wide customizations? In many offices and homes, however, computers need to be shared between two or more people without being completely wiped each time. And Windows 10 has great tools for allowing multiple people to share a single PC without any of those problems. In this piece, I’ll show you how to do it. Windows 10 makes it easy for multiple people to share the same PC. To do it, you create separate accounts for each person who will use the computer. Each person gets her own storage, her own applications, her own desktops, her own settings, and so on.

It’s hard enough for non-technical users to deal with ransomware infections: understanding public-key cryptography, connecting to the Tor anonymity network and paying with Bitcoin cryptocurrency. A new malicious program now makes it even more difficult by completely locking victims out of their computers. The new Petya ransomware overwrites the master boot record (MBR) of the affected PCs, leaving their operating systems in an unbootable state, researchers from antivirus firm Trend Micro said in a The MBR is the code stored in the first sectors of a hard disk drive. It contains information about the disk’s partitions and launches the operating system’s boot loader. Without a proper MBR, the computer doesn’t know which partitions contain an OS and how to start it.

Love them or hate them, Live Tiles are an integral part of Windows these days, and they aren’t going anywhere any time soon. In fact, it looks as though they’re about to get some welcome improvements in the not-too-distant future.  As The session’s description hints at improvements that will provide the
